What a day! We finally got veggies in the ground...whoop. In the interest of small, fast successes, we laid in a trellis grid and planted our first box with organic seedlings. Since it is the end of December, we really couldn't start with seed right off, so we planted our box with vegetable seedlings and pollinator attractors. YouTube has been spectacular in our quest to learn gardening techniques. We found a great video on how to lay a trellis grid for square foot gardening and as you can see, it worked beautifully, cheaply and at a low cost...that's what I call a garden trifecta. We planted kale, broccoli, lettuce mix, rosemary, basil, snapdragons and pansies.
The plan is to get the next three boxes up and growing in the next Saturday or so. As a partner of the community garden, each of us will donate 20% of our yield to the HB Shelter when we harvest.
Do you have any suggestions for what we should plant next? Let me know what you think of our garden box thus far. Happy growing!
